We exist for the health and well-being of mainly retired men although membership is open to all. We are a registered charity that provides a place where members can work by themselves or in cooperation with others on projects of their choice, or on projects that benefit the community.

We provide a place for members to share tools and resources, and a place to learn new skills. Members have a wide range of skills and experience to offer and can provide assistance with your project or they may need a helping hand themselves.

It's also a place where members can just come for a chat and a cuppa.

We are committed to having truly inclusive membership but, for legal reasons, we are unable to accept members under 18 years of age.

Our specially-built shed needs a little more work before we can start using it. We are hoping to open the shed five days a week starting this Autumn.

Home: Where are we

The shed is at the back of the South Hayling United Reformed Church in Mengham at the junction between Elm Grove and Hollow Lane. Postcode PO11 9EY.

The entrance to the shed will be from the car park at the rear but, in the interim, you can get to the shed via the path at the west end of the church car park.

Home: What do we do

It's early days for us so we will be evolving over the next few months as:

  • We can start using the shed
  • Members get together to decide on new projects
  • We get asked to help out in the community

To give you some idea of what we'll be doing we have already:

  • Provided marshals for the Hayling Island D-Day 75 COPP event
  • Organised a social events including a dance at The Royal British Legion, an indoor picnic and a french evening
  • With Hampshire CC's help, started a programme of renovating the public benches on Hayling
  • Helped several individuals with DIY projects

We have plenty of tools, and expertise with using them, so expect some creative projects in the future. We also have plans for a regular bike clinic.

It's not all about projects, however. We intend to be open five days a week to allow members - and prospective members - to drop in for a chat.

We are also extremely grateful to supporters of our fund-raising events and to those who have made personal contributions of time, money and expertise.

We are also a self-help organisation! Now the shell of the shed is built and it has passed initial building inspection, we are doing a lot of work to:

  • Pass a fire inspection and complete building inspection
  • Provide power to the shed
  • Fit out the interior
  • Landscape the exterior
